The Project

Travel content will always be my favorite kind of work, so collaborating with Food & Wine Magazine, Travel + Leisure Magazine, and GetYourGuide all at once felt like a dream client partnership scenario. Our job was to tell the story of two magazine editors as they navigated solo travel with the GetYourGuide App. We received the project brief with a 3-weeks notice before we needed to land in Tokyo. But tight timelines don’t scare us; my team and I thrive under pressure. We didn’t hesitate to say “YES” to producing these solo traveler’s guides to Tokyo and New Orleans.

Before the ink dried on our contract, my Producing Partner, Bryan Fellows, wasted no time in reaching out to and vetting production partners in Japan. After meeting with Producer Brian Kobo at Tokyo Colours, we were officially off to the races. Together, the three of us assembled a Tokyo-based crew, worked through sometimes tricky permitting regulations, and crafted the perfect schedule for capturing an entire Tokyo adventure in just one day.

We leveraged our crew connections from across the U.S. to get in contact with the best New Orleans crew we could find. Hiring local is what allows us to remain cost efficient, while also boosting local economies. We strive to hire locally as much as we can on every job.

Through it all, we worked closely with our Director Jess Berry to develop the creative. Jess brought her A game to this project — attention to detail (just look at the robust use of mixed media!), relevant storytelling, and a clear vision that helped us optimize every moment of filming. One of the qualities I love the most about Jess is her commitment to curiosity. This trait gives her films a unique perspective and thoughtfully precise narrative.
